"A profound talent in the area of drumming and percussion."
Tom Haugen – Take Effect

Curtis Andrews is a Canadian musician with global persuasions, who specializes in South Indian percussion, West African drum/dance, drumset, and mbira. A percussionist, composer and teacher who creates music that is informed by his many years of experience with these traditions yet transcends most categories.

He leads The Offering of Curtis Andrews, his award-winning ensemble which recently released a new album called Speaking Hands (2021), a trove of scintillating world-jazz compositions, leaning heavily in the direction of South India and West Africa. The album features special guest Dr. Trichy Sankaran, a world-renowned virtuoso of the mridangam, the barrel-shaped drum used in the Carnatic music of Southern India. Andrews has been a disciple of Dr. Sankaran for the past 20+ years.

Andrews is planning a tour of Canada in summer 2022 with his ensemble and will feature Trichy Sankaran with the group, in addition to special guest Kaushik Sivaramakrishnan (Carnatic violin).

Acclaim for Speaking Hands

"Speaking Hands is culturally rich, melodically rich and — of course — rhythmically rich."
S. Victor Aaron – Something Else!

"This album is a fantastic kaleidoscope of musical adventures, taking you down narrow roads of wonder."
George W. Harris - Jazz Weekly

"....the novel intersection of ... seemingly disparate elements into a cohesive and high-spirited musical statement that marks the album as something special."
Andrew Timar – The WholeNote

"Andrews has so many tricks up his sleeve it's a wonder they all don't fall out on the floor at some point. A great wild ride."
Chris Spector - Midwest Record
